Dear friends of the R/V Hero,

I was speechless and close to tears when a fellow Palmerite presented me with the product of his two months of crafting shown in the attached image.  Thought I should share this incredible, detailed rendering of the R/V Hero with you. Feel free pass along to other former Hero sailors.

 Hope all is well.

 Cheers,

 Maggie

Hello

I am a documentary Producer based in the United Kingdom. I am reaching out because I am presently researching for a documentary on the story of Bruno Zehnder's life and death. I am seeking to find anyone who knew him or whom he influenced. Might you be able to send a message to members as I am sure some here must have known him? Kindest Naomi.  POC info:  naomi.harvey@clockworkfilms.tv.

From the Gazette blogmaster:  Bruno "Penguin" Zehnder was a noted Swiss photographer who froze to death in 1997 at the Russian Mirny Station after getting lost in a storm.

Thanks Ed. Shame about Billy Ace. He was my Chief when I wintered 70/71. We kept in contact and when he didn't respond to my emails I suspected something. Has happened a few times in the past with shipmates.

I was diagnosed with prostate cancer late 2010 and removal by robotic surgery in Feb 2011. Had to fight tooth and nail to get Tricare to pay my claim. Told them they picked the wrong person to try that fight with and in the end a congressional enquiry was initiated on my behalf and my claim was paid. I was fighting for myself as well as other retirees living overseas. I received an apology letter from Tricare.

Before and after the prostate cancer I had many Basil Cell Carcinomas surgically removed and on 30 November, 2022 was diagnosed with Throat Cancer. Awaiting confirmation from PA hospital in Brisbane of commencement of my pending radiation treatment. I questioned my specialist who did the biopsies if the PM3A could have had an impact on my situation. He said possibly, but hard to prove. Another anxious time in my life beginning.

All the best for a Happy and Healthy Holiday Season to you, your family, and all the OAE's.

You have my permission to post this email where others may see anywhere.

Thanks.

 Kind regards,
